A Woman After My Own Heart

Devils Grin Kronberg Crimes ebook

Devils Grin Kronberg Crimes ebook

I already owned a few silk pillowcases (from the "Feeling Pampered" company, purchased from Amazon)-they were reasonably priced and I've loved them so far- so I was already aware that silk pillowcases are awesome. I didn't try purchasing a Spasilk pillowcase until recently because the only color they had available for a long time was just the white one, which I thought was boring. However, once I saw that they'd added a bunch of pretty colors, I figured I'd try this brand out. I already own/use the Spasilk silk washcloths (which are amazing, BTW!), so I was pretty sure the pillowcase would be good as well. Well, I must say, this pillowcase beats the silk pillowcases I purchased from the other brand, in spades! Not only was it a little cheaper (which is always nice!), but the fabric itself is WAAAAYYYY softer and smoother, with sort of a satin-like shininess to it. The material is also a little thicker, with a little more weight to it (my other silk pillowcases are a bit on the thin, flimsy side), which I personally prefer. I purchased the Aqua color and let me tell you, it is the most beautiful shade of blue ever, a lovely pale, soothing shade of Aqua. I've already washed it once (I machine washed in warm water using Woolite and hung it up to dry) and it came out looking good as new and feeling just as smooth and silky as ever. I wish I hadn't purchased the 3 other silk pillowcases from the other company, because these are FAR superior in just about every way possible. I will definitely be purchasing more of the Spasilk cases if/when I need another one (in fact I'm purchasing another one now because they're awesome, and my other flimsy silk cases feel like they're on the verge of crapping out on me, which sucks because I haven't had them that long). SOOOO happy with my purchase, highly highly recommend this pillowcase to anyone looking for a beautiful and affordable silk pillowcase!

  1. The author takes you right into the heart of early medicine's macabre explorations. The fact that our hero is really a heroine is an added bonus, and shows how women have fought to pursue the careers of their passion. The added bonus of having Sherlock Holmes enter the story is delightful. The medical history is both interesting and well researched. As a medical person myself, I found this particularly delightful to read.

  2. At first I thought - this is going to be another disaster at trying to temper with Sherlock Holmes. But as a fan of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle works, I downloaded it anyway. And read. Oh boy, do I read it without stopping.

As much as I'd like this book to portray more Holmes, it is not about him. I do find it intriguing to look at Holmes from another perspective other than Dr Watson. The character of Anna/Anton Kronberg has been developed quite well to match Holmes wit. However I have an inkling that there's more to her that what is told in this first book.

I am so looking forward to the next series!

  3. The novel is a good old fashioned mystery with an interesting twist - the "male" protagonist is a female! I was fascinated, not only by the well-researched information on medicine in 19th century London, but also by the lengths one woman went to follow her passion. Anna is a strong, spirited, intelligent character who makes the reader want to root for her. Add Mr. Holmes to the story and a bit of romance and you've got a page-turner that's hard to put down. Wonderful read.

  5. A great read; in spite of not being a true Sherlock Holmes fan myself I found it hard to put this one down. The inspired intrigue together with the rich characters leaves you wanting more. The main character's complicated double life is beautifully described without loosing depth - Anna Kronberg is truly mesmerizing. As an added bonus the book gives fascinating insights into the medical world of 19th century London. - I highly recommend the Devil's Grin.

  7. Anneile Wendeberg drops us into the middle of Victorian London with a splash. Doctor Anton Kronberg is called upon to investigate a body that has floated into the London water reservoir. Anneile creates a rich background using Victorian English with a light hand to give us a feel for the expressions of the time. It is a mystery, a romance, and a social commentary role neatly into a fast paced novel with a unique hero who has an astounding secret. I enjoyed the book immensely.
